Funkin’ About
In 2024, AmbeR Day Scott and Callie Lawson were simultaneously working on home improvement projects (in their respective homes) and regularly sending each other their success stories, horror stories, and words of encouragement. When they took a road trip to the Grapevine Meow Wolf, what initially started as "Oh, wouldn't it be amazing to live in a space like that?" quickly escalated into "Let's Funk Around and Find Out!"
They had an absolute blast together in the first year, and then big opportunities took Callie into a different profession, leaving AmbeR to hold down the Funky Fort on her own.
AmbeR Day Scott is a mixed media sculptor and curator whose passion was in creating large-scale immersive art experiences. Over-the-top parade floats, giant visual elements for street festivals, and the dizzyingly festive Xmas Xplosion exhibition were all part of a day's work for AmbeR as the former gallery director and resident artist of 9th Street Studios.
In 2026, AmbeR dug deeper into her exploration of what it means to be “funktional” (a way of life that inspires whimsical creations and spaces to facilitate community building while fulfilling practical needs.) In addition to her physical installations and experiences, she started developing the platform “Funk Buddies” for community-based initiatives, addressing interconnected social, economic, and environmental issues through an intersectional (and Funky) lens.
